Wow, three weeks of December craziness down and little over one to go. I’m starting to wonder if I’m going to make it! How are you feeling right now? Despite my best intentions with meal planning, decent sleep and daily workouts, I’m running one for three and the ONLY reason my workouts are getting done is because my alarm reminds me to do so each day at 5:30am. It’s either then, or not at all. Every Sunday I still sit down and make a meal plan to ensure a successful week ahead only to find that the days get cluttered with holiday parties, cocktails (why do drinks taste better during the holidays??), dinner dates, cookie decorating get-togethers, shopping events and late nights at work for the other adult in my family. I get to the end of my days and a host of thoughts run through my mind: “I don’t want to cook”/”I’m too tired”/”there is no one here to eat but me”/”I’m just going to eat with the kids.” What I’m trying to say here is that even those of us who consistently eat well and exercise struggle a bit sometimes…ESPECIALLY this time of year. Don’t get me wrong, I love the holidays but they are exhausting and present a host of challenges, however, the craziness, stress, lack of routine and constant indulgences have me more motivated than any other time of year to get back on track. My mantra for the remainder of 2015 is MAINTAIN NOT GAIN and then it’s full steam ahead in January!
For the last week I have been doing the new Master’s Hammer & Chisel workout which you can read about here. I love the challenge of a new program because it keeps things fresh and it keeps me motivated. I was admittedly anxious to see what this workout is all about after seeing Sagi Kalev (have you seen him?! That guy is a BEAST!). This program also needs serious equipment….well, a workout bench, but to me that’s serious business. After the first week I can honestly say that this program is not as hard as I thought it would be and most definitely not the hardest one I have done (that title still belongs to Insanity Max 30) and A LOT of fun. Here is a peek at the Chisel Endurance workout:
With impending holiday travel and lack of gym equipment I’m taking my workouts to the streets and slopes along with some fantastic On Demand workouts. I foresee some T25 and P90X3 workouts going down in my parent’s basement…perhaps joined by a few family members if I an rope them in?!
